So . . . what's next?

Important Info for Brio Missionaries!

After you've been accepted for the Brio Missions trip, you'll receive an acceptance letter from your friends at Brio. In February you'll start receiving monthly newsletters with important updates and even more details to help you stay on track. Make sure you AND YOUR PARENTS read them carefully!

Fund-raising and Financial Stuff

Once you've been accepted, you'll immediately want to begin your fund raising for the trip. Big World Ventures will send you a personalized payment plan so all your money isn't due at once. The final payment deadline will be April 1, 2009. Anyone not fully paid by that date will have to wait until the next year's trip and continue fund raising. Big World Ventures will hold the money you've already paid in for the next year. Payments are non-refundable as they are tax deductions for your donors and refunding the money to them or you would be illegal.

We encourage you to download and personalize this letter so you can send it to your friends and family! You can download the sample support letter (pdf format) here.

FAQs

  • Do I need a costume? What will the costumes look like? What materials will I need to create mine?
Yes. All teen participants will have a role in the 20-minute evangelistic drama "Toymaker's Son." You will be assigned a specific costume that you'll be responsible to bring but not necessarily wear yourself. Big World will send out your costume assignment in May with specifics of what that includes.

You can check out photos of each costume for ideas below. For ideas on how you can make a costume, download the Costume Descriptions pdf.

  • What's Guatemala like?
Guatemala is a nation rich in history, famed for its friendly people, native arts and crafts, natural beauty and vast diversity of wildlife. The most populous of the Central American republics, the country is bordered by Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador — a rugged highland with high mountains that extend east and west. Guatemala's famed Maya ruins is a popular tourist draw as well as the incredible rain forests and jungles that abound in birds and other wildlife as well as unique tropical flora. You'll learn more about Guatemala in our monthly newsletters.

  • What's the weather like in Guatemala in July?
May through October is the rainy season in Guatemala. Guatemala City will be hot and humid with a possibility of afternoon rain.

  • Where will we stay?
The trip begins in Miami, Fla. with 3 days of drama training before we go to Guatemala. While in Florida, we'll stay at a local hotel, typically the Embassy Suites. While in Guatemala, our entire group will stay at a resort-type hotel that is large enough to accommodate and feed us all. Detailed information to come. You'll have access to Internet to stay in touch with friends and family. Your parents will be able to call in by phone if they need to reach you.

  • What if I get sick?
We will have a staff of professional medical providers with us just to tend to the needs of our group. They'll be able to deal with minor illnesses and medical issues.

  • What should I pack?
We've provided a helpful list of what you'll need to bring with you to Guatemala. You can download the "Stuff to Bring" list (pdf format) here.

If your question hasn't been answered here, we'll most likely address it in the monthly newsletters, which will have LOTS more information. If you don't find it there, please feel free to email us at briomissions@gmail.com. Please type "Attn: Kathy Gowler" in the subject line.

Are you excited yet? LET'S GO!!
