For quite a while, the media has been abuzz with the phenomenal success of Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, along with hype about the movie version slated to release May 19. Problem is, the book is full of historical and theological errors — and outright heresy.
The Da Vinci Code completely misrepresents and undermines the identity, mission and message of Jesus. It reduces Him from Creator, Redeemer and Messiah — perfectly God and perfectly man — to a mere religious leader whose main concern was creating a “divine goddess” movement and leaving behind earthly progeny who would carry on His bloodline. The anti-Christian viewpoint of the book is pretty much summarized on p. 235 with the statement, “Almost everything our fathers taught us about Christ is false.”
So, why is “seeking the truth” about The Da Vinci Code worth your time and attention? Because all the widespread attention means that for a while, churched and unchurched people alike will want to discuss it. And that will be a very good thing for those who are prepared.
After The Da Vinci Code movie is released, many people (even some of the people in your congregation) will be asking, What is the real truth about Jesus? Is the Bible trustworthy? What should I believe about the church? Leaders and laypeople who are equipped to engage in thoughtful, positive conversations with others will not only be able to protect their families from deception but will be able to steer seekers to the real Jesus Christ.
In this Web site, you’ll find a wealth of valuable resources — articles, Web ads, resources for use with individuals and small groups, and helpful links — to help give your people the tools they need to ground themselves in truth and share it with others. Please encourage all teens and adults to log on! (And just for youth leaders, we've created a group discussion guide (PDF) in response to The Da Vince Code book and movie.)
Also, we hope all churches will watch two special satellite telecasts. On Tuesday, March 28 (and again on Friday, April 28), Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg will host "The Da Vinci Code Evangelism Training" to help you educate your congregation and equip your leaders to leverage The Da Vinci Code movie and book to effectively reach out to the spiritual seekers in your community! And on Sunday evening, May 21, CCN television will present Unlocking The Da Vinci Code Outreach Event, with Strobel, Mittelburg and Dr. Erwin Lutzer. This second broadcast will address the claims of the book and powerfully share the gospel of Christ, followed by live questions from viewers across the nation.

It is our prayer that Christian leaders will “understand the times, and know what to do” (1 Chronicles 12:32). What Satan intends for evil is a unique opportunity to advance God’s kingdom!
